Pair fined for Kirriemuir street assault

Christopher Edge, left, and Liam Polden were each fined £230 for the attack in Kirriemuir.
Christopher Edge, left, and Liam Polden were each fined £230 for the attack in Kirriemuir.

two men have each been fined for their part in an assault in Kirriemuir town centre.

Liam Polden and Christopher Edge became involved in the early hours incident after a pal had an earlier pub fall-out with their victim.

Polden, 24, of Westfield, Kirriemuir, and Edge, 24, from Gowanbank, Forfar, appeared for sentencing at Forfar Sheriff Court after admitting their part in the assault on May 24 last year at Glengate.

Polden pleaded guilty to repeatedly punching the victim and Edge admitted repeatedly kicking the man.

A co-accused was earlier jailed for his involvement in the attack.

Depute fiscal Hannah Kennedy said the earlier incident had taken place in the Thrums Hotel, but after leaving the premises the victim was approached by Polden and punched repeatedly.

When the man was knocked to the ground, Edge began kicking him.

The bleeding victim managed to run away and police in the area saw him.

Polden’s solicitor Bob Bruce said his client had been “absolutely the peacemaker” in the pub incident, but he admitted the street attack.

Sheriff Pino di Emidio fined each accused £230.
