Strathtay buses from through the years.

The streets of Dundee will be turning blue and orange this Sunday as the owners of historic local buses recreate the glory days of a former Tayside company.

A group of enthusiasts have come together to organise an event to mark the 30th anniversary of the Strathtay company, which was founded in 1985.

Regular free services using preserved Strathtay buses will run from Seagate Bus Station on a variety of local routes, visiting Gauldry, Muirhead, Monifieth, Kingoodie and Liff.

Organiser Andrew Macintosh said: “All the buses we’re using on the day ran in service for Strathtay and many of them have been specially repainted into the company’s colours for the event.”

With vehicles coming from as far away as Glasgow and Chesterfield, organisers hope it will be a great way to mark the 30th birthday of a well respected local company.

“All the trips we’re running start from Dundee Bus Station and all are free,” Mr Macintosh said. “This isn’t just a day out for enthusiasts we’d like to encourage the public to come along and enjoy riding on our historic buses.”

The event has the full support of Stagecoach, who currently run bus services in the former Strathtay area.

Some members of staff have even volunteered to drive and conduct the bus services in their own time.

The first service leaves Dundee bus station at 9.30am.
