The city’s finest sportsmen and women were celebrated at Dundee Sports Awards on Wednesday night.
Local athletes, clubs and school pupils rubbed shoulders with Commonwealth Games stars at the event to celebrate the city’s sporting prowess.
Held at the Caird Hall, the panel of judges had the unenviable job of selecting the top nominees from 12 categories.
The winners announced on the night included 2014 Commonwealth Games cyclist Mark Stewart, who beat strong competition to win the AutoEcosse Dundee Sports Person of the Year for the second year running.
Dundee Dragons Wheelchair Sports Club were named winners of the Dundee Academy of Sport Club of the Year category, having gone from strength to strength since forming in 2013.
Other highlights included the Lifetime Commitment Award for Jim Kelly, who was recognised for the years of service he has given to Lochee Harp Football Club.Full photo gallery to followThe Dundee Academy of Sport School Sporting Achievement Award was claimed by Clepington Primary School.
Bob Duncan, chairman of Leisure and Culture Dundee, paid tribute to the sportsmen and women who had “made Dundee proud on the world stage”.
He said: “It gives me great pleasure to see those who have made Dundee proud on the world stage as well as those doing so much for grassroots sport to be recognised for their fantastic efforts.
“Leisure and Culture Dundee is very grateful to all the sponsors who, along with our staff, have once again helped make this a very special evening.
“The Dundee Sports Awards is the most prestigious event of its kind in Dundee and all the nominees and winners should be very proud of their achievements.”
Organisers were particularly pleased by the level of public engagement in this year’s ceremony, with more than 4,500 votes cast in three categories.
