“Extremely distressing” footage of a six-year-old boy being abducted by a naked man during his drug-fuelled rampage through a Dundee toy shop has been shown to a court.

Prezymslaw Kaluzny is seen dragging the terrified youngster across the floor towards the exit of Toys R Us before attacking the boy’s grandmother with a cricket bat as she tries to rescue him.

Kaluzny, 41, who has previous convictions for robbery and abduction, took ecstasy he found in the street in a failed suicide attempt before entering the Kingsway store on Easter Sunday, stripping off and walking naked through the aisles.

The court was closed to the public as the CCTV footage, described as “extremely distressing” by depute fiscal Eilidh Robertson, was shown to Sheriff Lorna Drummond.

Miss Robertson told the court that Kaluzny entered the shop at 2.30pm holding a cricket bat and stripped naked before walking towards the toilets.

Miss Robertson said: “Staff members thought he was attempting to carry out a robbery and told the manager who tannoyed colleagues.”

Miss Robertson said shoppers became “panicked and unsettled” and tried to shield their children.

Kaluzny was seen in the toilet by a woman with her young daughter and the court was told the woman began screaming in “complete panic”.

Kaluzny then went back into the aisles and “forcibly grabbed” the six-year-old boy before running off with him toward the front door.

Miss Robertson said: “The boy started crying and was terrified. The accused was swinging the bat at anyone who came near him. A man struck him with a shopping trolley.”

The boy’s grandmother tried to hit Kaluzny with her handbag and he struck her with the bat causing her to stumble.

After being restrained by staff and shoppers, Kaluzny was arrested and managed to snap his handcuffs in the police van causing his wrists to bleed heavily.

He admitted that on April 5 at Toys R Us, Kingsway West Retail Park, Dundee, he was in possession of an offensive weapon, behaved in a threatening and abusive manner, committed an offence of public indecency, assaulted a six-year-old boy and abducted him and then assaulted a woman with a cricket bat to her injury.

Kaluzny further admitted an act of vandalism committed in a police car travelling from Toys ’R Us to Dundee’s Police HQ.

He had not guilty pleas accepted to charges of theft, taking and driving away a car, driving without a licence or insurance, careless driving, and an offence under the Sexual Offences (Scotland) Act.

Sheriff Drummond deferred sentence until January 20 for reports and remanded Kaluzny in custody.
