Sheriff rules London trio have no case to answer on allegations they tried to lure women into car in Dundee

Dundee Sheriff Court.

The case against three London men accused of trying to entice young women into their car in Dundee has collapsed.

Lack of evidence led to Christopher Stevens, Michael Sandford, and Miguel Cover being acquitted of the majority of the charges against them on the fourth day of a trial at Dundee Sheriff Court.

Despite most of the charges being dropped, driver Cover later admitted dangerous driving during a police chase between Dundee and Perth and was jailed for 11 months.

He was also disqualified from driving for 18 months.

At the end of the Crown case, Sheriff George Way said there were insufficiencies in evidence to prove the three men had been involved in trying to entice women into their car, and he ruled there was no case to answer.

Stevens, 23, and Michael Sandford, 25, were acquitted on all five charges against them, of threatening and abusive behaviour likely to cause fear and alarm against seven women, one of whom was only 15.

However, driver Miguel Cover, 32, was also aquitted of the same charges, but pled guilty to a charge of dangerous driving after a police chase from Dundee’s Swallow Hotel Roundabout to Kinfauns.
