A man is due to appear in court after a teenager was stabbed to death in a Fife street.

The 17-year-old died in hospital after the incident in Simon Crescent, on the outskirts of Methilhill, at around 2.10am on Tuesday.

Paramedics rushed to the scene in the east Fife town and the teenager, named locally as Connor Cleave, was taken to Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy for treatment but he died shortly after arriving at the hospital.

Police cordoned off the street to allow a full-scale investigation to take place.

A 22-year-old man has been detained in relation with the death. One resident described the incident as a “rammy in the street”.

Confirming that police were treating the incident as murder and that a man had been detained in connection with the incident, a spokesman for Police Scotland’s Fife Division said: “The police were called to a serious incident in Simon Crescent, Methilhill, and an investigation is now underway.

“Enquiries are on-going at this time, and cordons have been put in place in and around Simon Crescent. This will cause residents some disruption.

Every effort will be made to minimise the disruption caused, but the residents of Simon Crescent and the surrounding area are asked to be patient while enquires are underway.

“If anyone has any information it is requested that they make themselves known to an officer in Simon Crescent, Methilhill or phone Police Scotland.”

A spokeswoman for the Scottish Ambulance Service said paramedics were called by police at 2.09am to attend to a man who appeared to have been stabbed. The patient arrived at the Victoria at 2.38am.

Inspector James Meek from Police Scotland moved to reassure the rest of the community, stating that the death should not worry the wider public.

“Inquiries are on-going to establish the full circumstances of what happened,” he said.

“A 22-year-old man is in custody and will be appearing at Kirkcaldy Sheriff Court in connection with this incident.

“At this time I would like to provide reassurance that this is an isolated incident, and there is no wider risk to the public. “There is an increased police presence in the area as we carry out our inquiries, and officers are carrying out additional patrols in order to provide reassurance to local residents.”
