AS IT HAPPENED: Dundee win the Championship with victory over Dumbarton

Dundee have won the league and promotion to the Premiership.

A capacity crowd inside Dens Park watched as Paul Hartley’s men raced into a 2-0 lead against Dumbarton thanks to Christian Nade and Peter MacDonald and looked to be cruising to the title.

However, a Dumbarton penalty and an incredible score of 10-2 for Hamilton against Morton meant a nervy end for the Dark Blues.Click here for a full match report Click here for a full photo gallery Click here for Ian Roache’s blogBut Dundee held on to seal the victory they wanted, sparking wild celebrations from the home fans who invaded the pitch at full-time.

There were ecstatic scenes at the end as hundreds of fans in the 10,718 crowd invaded the pitch to acclaim their Dark Blue heroes.

Hartley’s side had gone into the game knowing that victory would be enough to win the league at the expense of their season-long challengers, Hamilton and Falkirk.

With all three teams still in the running for the title, the Championship trophy was sitting in a helicopter at Cumbernauld Airport until the destination of the silverware was confirmed with the pilot finally setting a flight path to the City of Discovery.

There was a carnival atmosphere, with supporters queuing at the gates more than two hours before kick-off.
