Dundee close in on Christian Nade

Christian Nade has been training with Dundee after leaving East Fife in November.

Dundee look set to complete the signing of former Hearts and Sheffield United striker Christian Nade by the end of the week after the forward’s recent trial period.

The 29-year-old has been training with the Dark Blues for a fortnight with a view to winning a contract, and the fact he scored in a bounce game on Tuesday will have done no harm towards achieving that goal.

Indeed, Courier Sport understands talks over a deal until the end of the season are at an advanced stage and the paperwork should be done and dusted over the next few days.

Nade has not played competitive football since March after leaving Thai club PTT Rayong and underwent a clear-up knee operation in the summer while in talks with League One outfit East Fife.

The Frenchman agreed a contract with the Fifers but left in November.

That was put down to paperwork problems at the Thai end which prevented the necessary international clearance, and East Fife decided it was not fair to either them or the player to keep him at Bayview as he effectively could not sign until January.

However, those contractual snags have been overcome and Nade is now a free agent, with Dundee expected to bring him in to bolster their attacking options bearing in mind Dees striker Craig Beattie is ruled out until next month with a knee injury.

A spokesperson for Nade said: “Everything seems to be coming together to get Christian’s time at Dundee starting this week. Hopefully everything will be firmed up in the next couple of days.”

If the move does go through as expected, Nade would be available for Saturday’s top of the table clash with Hamilton Accies.

Meanwhile, it emerged Dundee have missed out on a loan move for Motherwell striker Bob McHugh.

The Steelmen allowed defender Adam Cummins to join the Dark Blues but were stopped from sending McHugh to Dens Park due to SPFL rules which stated that clubs were only allowed to lend one player to another club.

The temporary transfer regulations have since been changed to allow two players to move to another SPFL side, as long as the receiving team play in a different division.

However, Dundee’s Championship rivals Queen of the South yesterday swooped in to take the 22-year-old forward on a temporary transfer.
