Dundee United won’t be selling to Celtic

Dundee United fans worried that they will be losing more of their players to Celtic can rest easy.

Courier Sport understands that the decision has been taken at Tannadice that no more of their players will be heading to Parkhead, regardless of the size of any bids.

The latest United names to be linked to the Premiership champions-elect are striker Nadir Ciftci and defender turned midfielder John Souttar.

That speculation comes hot on the heels of the double sale of Gary Mackay-Steven and Stuart Armstrong to Celtic on the final day of the January transfer window.

The loss of that talented duo kick-started a serious dip in form that has resulted in the Tangerines falling down to fifth in the league table, while defeats to Celtic saw them lose the League Cup final and get knocked out of the Scottish Cup.

Watching another couple of their favourites making the switch to the east end of Glasgow would be greeted with utter dismay by United supporters.

When it comes to the football business it is usually a case of never say never but any future approaches from the Hoops will not even be considered.

United have concluded that enough is enough and Celtic chief executive Peter Lawwell would be wasting his time if he were to pick up the phone to call Tannadice to ask about Ciftci, Souttar or anyone else for that matter.
