A whisky produced by a Dundee company, bottled in Montrose and banned in the US has made a spirited comeback.
The 12-year-old Black Bull, now made by Huntly firm Duncan Taylor Scotch Whisky, was named ‘best blended’ at the World Whisky Awards in April.
The dram takes its name from Black Bull Scotch whisky, which was originally bottled at Bow Butts Bonded Warehouse in Montrose for Dundee firm George Willsher & Company and its American partner Jack Gross of Baltimore.
It was originally sold in bottles ranging from one gallon to a flat, hipflask-sized container, which was popular with Americans attending sporting events.
However, the US Government eventually banned the smaller bottle to reduce crowd trouble at such events and the brand disappeared as a result.
It has now made a comeback and Duncan Taylor Scotch Whisky will also release a special 40-year Black Bull reserve this month.
