A leading Dundee legal firm will soon have a presence in three of Scotland’s major east coast cities after securing a merger with a historic Aberdeen practice.
Reform Street-based Blackadders has confirmed it is amalgamating with Granite City law firm Adam Cochran from January.
No financial details of the deal have been disclosed.
Blackadders managing partner Johnston Clark said the merger had been motivated by a desire to expand the company’s existing client base in the north east, whilst also developing new business opportunities in the region.
“We are delighted to be strengthening Blackadders for the future by joining forces with Adam Cochran, a long-established, well-regarded law firm in Aberdeen,” said Mr Clark.
“This will give the firm a strong and unique presence in the major centres on Scotland’s east coast, offering a full range of services from our Aberdeen, Dundee and Edinburgh offices. Our growth into a national firm will create increased strength and depth of client service.”
The Adam Cochran name will disappear following the merger and the new enlarged business will trade under the Blackadders banner.
All 18 staff in the Bon Accord Square-based practice which has particular expertise in the private client, residential, rural property, family law and dispute resolution fields are being retained under the terms of the merger.
Adam Cochran partners Peter Robertson and Gareth Masson will hold the same roles in the new structure, while new partner and head of dispute resolution Ryan McKay will be principally based in Aberdeen after the merger takes place.
The move follows last year’s successful merger between Blackadders and the long-established Edinburgh practice of McKay Norwell.
The Blackadders business will comprise 21 partners and 170 staff five new partners have been added this year alone once the latest merger comes into being on January 1.
Mr Robertson said the merger heralded a new era for the Adam Cochran business.
“The merger will provide great synergies,” he said.“Gareth and I are delighted to be joining Blackadders. We expect to be busier than ever whilst providing continuity of service to our clients.”
