Drymen Show sees Clydesdale Littleward Doreen reign supreme
ByPhilippa Merry
A Clydesdale filly on her debut show outing was crowned the champion of champions at the 186th Drymen Show.
Owned by former Clydesdale Horse Society president Neil Christie, of Dalfoil, Balfron, the top entry Littleward Doreen was shown to her supreme win by his sons Ewan and Ali.
The yearling filly, which was bred out of Littleward Athena by Hugh Carrick, of Easter Littleward, Thornhill, Stirling, is a daughter of the stallion Collessie Redcastle Hallmark.
She had been judged initially as the best exhibit in the Clydesdale breed section by Angus breeder John Anderson, of Drummygar Mains, Carmyllie.
“She went very well,” said Mr Anderson.
“She’s a nice mover that’s great on her legs.”
He added: “She also had good bone and an abundance of hair I really couldn’t fault her.”
Never previously shown, Littleward Doreen will head shortly to the 174th Royal Highland Show.
Returning to its ‘home’ showground on the banks of the Endrick Water, the Drymen Show, run by the Strathendrick AgriculturalSociety, basked in glorious sunshine throughout the day.
