The lead singer of renowned Scottish folk group Capercaillie visited Angus to headline a music festival.

Karen Matheson took to the stage at the annual Eassie, Nevay and Kirkinch Community Council concert, where she played to an eager crowd, in a venue paid for by community fund-raising.

The small rural community raised half a million pounds to rebuild the Balkeerie Hall, where Donald Shaw and Sheena Wellington also performed, in addition to Scott Gardiner and Johnny Kemp.

Tayside group The Orwell Ceilidh Band took over for the final part of Saturday’s entertainment, which was complimented by a raffle, with first prize of a luxury week in the Algarve.

Workshops and jam sessions were held for musicians of all ages and stages throughout the day.

Sheena said, “The line-ups for concert and ceilidh are stunning. Karen Matheson and Donald Shaw are international stars and the Orwell Ceilidh Band is one of the most popular in the business.

“The support acts could all hold centre stage on their own and we have some of the best, most experienced workshop leaders in the business.”
