Blether with Brown: Gerry a credit to Dundee and Scotland

“The recent interview with Gerry Cahill in The Sporting Post was an informative read,” said Dundonian Rob Boag, now living in Canada.

“A Taekwondo world champion and Grandmaster to young students competing globally is impressive.

“Well done, Gerry, you are a credit to Dundee and Scotland.

“Gerry reminisced on the boxers in Lochee who influenced him during his youth Jim Brady and Geordie Parks and speculated they were good enough to have fought Benny Lynch in their earlier days.

“Jim Brady did climb into the ring with Benny all of four times twice in 1933 and twice in 1934.

“Jim fought a draw in one of the bouts but Lynch was awarded the verdict on points in the other three fights.

“A marvellous metaphor and compliment to Dick McTaggart’s creative hands came from Gerry but that was only half the McTaggart package.

“Dick’s footwork had an effortless choreographed movement that a standing ovation would have been given from Fred Astaire and Michael Flatley to witness such elegance and grace in a boxing ring.”
