Rail services were disrupted on Sunday evening after a person was struck by a train at Markinch.
The incident happened at around 8pm and all services through the Fife town were either delayed or revised.
Dozens of passengers were stranded on board the King’s Cross train for Aberdeen at Markinch station for some time as rail company Scotrail tried to source replacement buses.
The company said they had requested buses at Kirkcaldy, Perth and Dundee.
The disruption was expected to last until at least 9.30pm.
British Transport Police said they were not aware of the incident.
