Unexplained baby death: Police leave Dundee flats at centre of probe as officers give update on investigation

Police have now left a block of flats after a week of investigating the death of a newborn baby in Dundee.

Officers were called to North Erskine Street in Stobswell on Sunday August 8.

An incident response unit from the Scottish Ambulance Service was also called to the scene.

A police presence remained at the flats throughout last week, as officers try to work out the circumstances surrounding the tot’s death.

By Monday morning officers had left the scene, but have confirmed the death is still being treated as unexplained.

Locals have been leading the tributes since news of the tragedy unfolded.

A woman, understood to be the baby’s mum, was taken to hospital following the youngster’s death.

A Police Scotland spokesman added: “At around 7:05pm on Sunday August 8 2021, police received a report of a new born baby having died within a house in North Erskine Street, Dundee.

“A post mortem examination will take place in due course to establish the exact circumstances of the death which police are currently treating as unexplained.

“A report will be sent to the procurator fiscal.”
