Thug threatened ex-partner with knife, choked and bit her in series of Dundee attacks

A man has been found guilty of brutally assaulting his ex-partner, subjecting her to terrifying attacks including threatening her with a knife.

Josh McLean, 28, a prisoner at Perth, also chased the woman around her own home, pinned her to a bed, choked her and bit her finger.

McLean was found guilty of six charges – including two of assault – by a jury at Dundee Sheriff Court.

McLean’s victim wept in the witness stand as jurors were shown images of bruising on her left eye as well as on her arm.

She said this was caused by McLean punching her face and grabbing her.

Giving evidence, she said: “At the time I was too scared to report it to the police but I felt like it was the right thing to do.

“He put his hand through the car window and he was swearing at me and trying to get money off me.

“He tried to punch me twice.”

McLean was found guilty of behaving in a threatening or abusive manner at Happyhillock Road on August 31 last year by phoning his ex-partner, making threats of violence, approaching her and acting aggressively and demanding money. McLean was also found guilty of assault by striking her on the head and spitting on her, also at Happyhillock Road.

He was found guilty of a second charge of assault when he pinned his ex-partner to a bed, placed his hands around her throat, restricted her breathing, repeatedly punched her head and body and bit her finger at Nithsdale Avenue on September 16.

He also struggled with her, pursued her, pinned her against a wall and placed his hands around her throat, brandished a knife and made threats of violence.

McLean was found guilty of twice breaching bail conditions not to approach or contact the victim.

Sentence was deferred until March 12 for reports.
