Dundee pervert rumbled by vigilantes restricted to one phone and computer

A sheriff has imposed new restrictions on a sex offender who sent messages to a girl he thought was 13.

Sheriff Alistair Carmichael granted a Sexual Offences Prevention Order (SOPO) against Ross Ottaway, 37, formally of Lochee, including preventing him from owning more than one mobile phone and computer.

Ottaway, of North Grimsby, Arbroath, previously pleaded guilty to contacting a fake Facebook profile created by a paedophile hunter group in July 2017.

At the time Ottaway was on a community payback order (CPO) for showing sexual images to three children under the age of 12.

When he was jailed for 15 months in November the CPO was revoked meaning Ottaway would be left unsupervised once released.

Sheriff Carmichael granted 18 restrictions on Ottaway, preventing him from having unsupervised access with any child under 18 unless supervised by an adult over 21 and aware of his convictions.

Ottaway is also barred from using the internet unless the history is displayed, and is prohibited from using any private browsing method.

He is also not allowed to use the internet on any device without the written permission of police and banned from using any social networking or dating websites.
