A man has been jailed after he admitted dealing heroin.
Kevin McKell, 32, of Greenbank Place, was due to face trial this month, but pleaded guilty at an intermediate diet at Dundee Sheriff Court.
McKell admitted that on March 7, on Greenbank Place, he was concerned in the supply of heroin.
Fiscal depute Kate Irwin told the court: “Police received information he was concerned in the supply of a controlled drug from his home address.
“A search warrant was obtained and executed on March 7 at his home address, where he stayed with his two sisters.
“Brown powder was found in a safe. This was tested and found to be 28.1g of heroin. The drugs had a street value of around £1,400, along with scales and a quantity of cash, and a roll of cling film.
“The accused stated: ‘It’s mine – whatever you find, it’s mine’.”
The court was told that McKell had been dealing to fund his own habit, and had since tried to seek help for his addiction with a rehab centre in Greenock.
Sheriff John Rafferty said: “You will be aware of the damage selling such a drug has on the community.
“There’s only one possible sentence here and that’s a custodial one. It would have been 12 months but I take into account your plea.”
The sheriff sentenced McKell to nine months in prison.
