Dundee man has appeal conviction rejected despite partner saying he never attacked her

A Dundee man who was found guilty of attacking his partner has had an appeal against his conviction refused — despite his alleged victim claiming it wasn’t him.

Stephen Ingram was jailed after assaulting Melissa Edgar — his then “on and off” partner of 10 years — on December 29 2016, at an address at Kingsway East.

Ingram launched an appeal against his conviction, but it was rejected at the High Court in Glasgow.

Ms Edgar, however, testified she had not been assaulted and denied Ingram had been at the address on the day in question. Despite her evidence, Ingram was convicted on the back of other witness testimony.

Lord Turnbull, one of the presiding judges, said the evidence in the case entitled the jury to conclude the assault on Ms Edgar was perpetrated by Ingram.

He said: “We are satisfied the sheriff was correct to repel the submission of no case to answer made, and the appeal against conviction on both charges must be refused.”
