Soldiers will march through the streets of Perth next month as part of a homecoming tour after a six-month stint in Iraq.

Members of The Black Watch, third battalion, Royal Regiment of Scotland (3 SCOTS), will parade on Sunday September 16.

The soldiers will start at 11am on Mill Street and march through Kinnoull, South, St John’s and George streets, finishing at Perth Concert Hall at noon.

The visit forms part of a Scotland-wide homecoming tour including Forfar, Dunfermline and Inverness.

All parades will be accompanied by the regiment’s mascot, Cruachan IV, and the pipes and drums.

Before the tour begins, soldiers from the regiment will be cycling the North Coast 500 over five days, wild camping along the way.

The challenge will end just two days before the Perth parade and is in aid of Cash For Kids, a charity aimed at improving the quality of life of disadvantaged children.

During their six month tour, 3 SCOTS worked alongside the US Army and Air Force, as well as Danish, Norwegian and French troops.

They provided vital training and mentoring to the Iraqi security forces to help the country respond to Islamic State threats, including learning how to counter improvised explosive devices, infantry skills, combat medical techniques and engineering skills.

Despite the busy work routine, the soldiers also managed to raise money for the Army Benevolent Fund, host a highland games and take part in various runs and activities hosted by other nations.
