A song condemning Theresa May and the Tory government has soared to the top of the UK charts.
The anti-austerity track called Liar Liar Ge2017 by Captain Ska has reached number three in the UK’s Official Charts, and is now “battling” for number one.
It is also at the top spot of the Amazon singles chart, and is sitting at number two on the iTunes one.
Taking to Twitter, a statement from the Official Charts said: “Captain Ska’s Theresa May protest single Liar Liar is now battling for Number 1 on the Official Singles Chart.”
The anti-austerity single was released on May 26.
Its lyrics include the lines “she’s a liar” and “you can’t trust her”.
All proceeds from downloads of the single, prior to the June 8 general election, is going towards food banks and the People’s Assembly Against Austerity campaign.
The video accompanying the single includes footage of the Prime Minister alongside clips of foreign secretary Boris Johnson.
Liar Liar also highlights cuts to the NHS, social care and schools, and points to the fact that 3.7 million British children are currently living in poverty.
The band will also play a gig in London on the eve of the general election.
In a statement, Captain Ska said: “Just a quick one to say thanks so much everyone. I’m so overwhelmed by the response and so happy that we’ve raised so much money for food banks and The People’s Assembly. (will know exact numbers on Friday).
“There’s a big gig happening on Wednesday, June 7 in London, I promise tickets will be announced very shortly. Looking forward to meeting some of you in person.”
