Danny Williams wants to kick off the weekend with Dundee at the top

Danny Williams has set his sights on starting a rare weekend off with Dundee looking down at the rest of the Premiership for a second time in the first months of the season.

The Dark Blues finished the first weekend of the campaign in pole position after a 3-1 win at Ross County.

Although this time their stay would almost certainly last just a few hours before the rest of the league see action tomorrow, because it would mean victory over Hamilton Accies at Dens tonight means he’ll happily take that.

And the summer signing from Inverness believes a repeat of the good display from last weekend’s defeat to Rangers could see the Dark Blues make it two wins from three top-flight matches so far.

“Last week it was disappointing result-wise and first half we weren’t at the races,” said the 28-year-old midfielder.

“Second half, though, we came out, did well and probably could have taken something from the game.

“Now we move on to Hamilton and we are feeling pretty confident we can get the three points and go into a weekend off up at the top of the table.”

Despite that lingering disappoint-ment of going down to the Gers, the Englishman insists confidence is still high.

It will be boosted even further if they can produce their best over the full 90 minutes this time out.

“It’s a game we’re looking forward to and, if we play like we did in the second half against Rangers, we will have a good chance.

“I thought we pressed them well and we’ll be looking to do the same against Hamilton.

“We are still feeling confident because of that second half against them and from going up to Ross County the week before and winning.

“That’s a difficult place to go — they’re a good team. They showed that against my old club Inverness last week, so we can take confidence from that win.

“Now our focus is fully on this game and, if we play the way we can, we feel we’ll do well in it.

“Hamilton are a good team and they always work hard for 90 minutes.

“That’s what you have to do in the league and our aim is to match them that way.

“If we do, the quality can come through like it did in the second half.”

On a personal level, Williams admits he’s been delighted with how things have gone since that close-reason switch from ICT.

He’s quickly grown accustomed to his new surroundings and says the way he’s been accepted has helped.

“I feel I’m settling in well here. The boys have been very welcoming and it’s a good dressing-room. I’m enjoying the training as well and right now I’m enjoying my football.

“I’m also happy with the amount of game time I’m getting but there is competition for places here and that’s healthy.

“There are a lot of good players here and that keeps you on your toes.”

And he stresses that’s despite the loss of main goalscorers Greg Stewart and Kane Hemmings.

The goals have kept coming despite the absence of the strike duo and Williams is sure that will continue and he aims to do his bit.

“We lost a lot of goals with the two lads who left but there are players here who can score.

“Michael O’Hara and Rory Loy have shown that and I would like to try to chip in with a few more myself.

“I’ve been pleased with how I’ve been playing so far but I do want to get a few goals as well.”
