Dundee United are not lacking choices when it comes to finding their new manager.
The Tele understands the likes of Robbie Neilson, Jim McIntyre and another former tangerine, Billy Dodds, have indicated they are keen hold talks over the possibility of succeeding Csaba Laszlo in the Tannadice hot seat.
And added to that list can be John Robertson, gaffer of United’s Championship rivals Inverness Caley Thistle.
Caley Thistle are currently one place above and two points better off than the Tangerines but Robertson is believed to have expressed an interest in heading south.
With interim boss Laurie Ellis expected to be given a couple of games to show he should get the job permanently, it’s not clear yet when United chairman Mike Martin plans to hold formal interviews.
Meanwhile, another name that refuses to go away is that of St Johnstone boss Tommy Wright, with whom United have been linked each time they’ve had a change of manager since Jackie McNamara was sacked three years ago.
The Northern Irishman is in the final year of his contract at McDiarmid Park but is expected to sign a new deal soon.
And with compensation for him hovering around the £250,000 mark, that would appear to be a non-starter.
A number of applications have also been received from abroad but right now it’s looking likely the next manager will be a man with a strong up-to-date knowledge of the Scottish game.
Away from the speculation over the new manager, Laurie Ellis has been preparing the squad for Saturday’s trip to Championship leaders Ayr United.
He’ll have to do without the services of Stewart Murdoch following his red card against Ross County last weekend.
After four substitute appearances since recovering from a thigh problem, winger Billy King could come into the reckoning for a place in the starting line up.
