Versatile Dundee United midfielder misses Falkirk fixture

Dundee United will be without the versatile Sam Stanton when Falkirk visit Tannadice on Saturday.

Stanton has been a virtual ever-present in the starting line-up since Csaba Laszlo took over as manager back in November and in January saw his loan move from Hibs converted to a permanent two-and-a-half-year deal.

He’s also been used in every midfield position and, at times, just behind the main striker.

His booking, however, in the draw at Morton at the end of last month means he will be idle this weekend because of a suspension under the totting up process.

United will be able to welcome back veteran attacker Scott McDonald for the Bairns clash. He missed Tuesday’s win over leaders St Mirren because of a similar ban.

Meanwhile, long-term injury victims James Keatings and Lewis Toshney are gradually working their way back to fitness after groin and knee operations respectively.

Both are back running and, although they will not feature again this term, look on course to be ready for the start of pre-season.

Saturday will see United hold their second Food Bank Appeal of the season, following on from the success when one was held at Christmas.

Back then, fans donated 625 kilos of food and £3,000 in cash.

“Nobody should have to go hungry in a country like this and it is shocking how many people do,” said skipper Willo Flood.

“I would ask everybody to get behind this renewed appeal to help the most vulnerable in our society and we will have a bucket in the changing-room, too.”

Collection buckets will be placed outside turnstiles on Saturday.
