Dundee United midfielder Fraser Fyvie faces late fitness decision ahead of Dumbarton trip

Dundee United midfielder Fraser Fyvie faces late fitness decision ahead of Dumbarton trip

Dundee United could be without both first-choice midfield anchor men when the post-Ray McKinnon era kicks-off at Dumbarton.

Caretaker boss Laurie Ellis takes the Tangerines west knowing Dutchman Jordie Briels will miss a second game in a row because of a hip problem.

And a knock suffered against Inverness Caley Thistle last weekend has left Fraser Fyvie a major doubt.

“Fraser has just been getting treatment all week really. He’s been doing a little bit of light work and progressing but that’s going to be a close call,” said Laurie

“Jordie’s got a slightly deeper problem, so we’re looking at addressing that.

“Jordie’s been good for us this season. He’s had lots of energy that’s been missed and we won’t have him available.”

Fyvie was doing more training on Friday but it could be this morning before the final decision on whether or not he plays is taken.

Several other players picked up knocks in the Inverness defeat but will be fit to travel.

The enforced change if Fyvie doesn’t make it apart, the United line-up will not be much changed from last week.

As they look to get back to winning ways after two defeats on the bounce, Scott Fraser could come into the starting line-up.

The midfielder came on during the second half last week and is fit to start after his problems with a broken foot.
