Ray McKinnon is feeling good about Dundee United’s play-off chances

Ray McKinnon is making sure no one in his dressing room is getting carried away by their fine play-off quarter-final win over Morton.

But the Dundee United boss is struggling to hide his own feelings his side are hitting top form at just the right time.

The Tangerines’ Premiership promotion push continues at Tannadice tonight with the first leg of their semi-final against Falkirk.

Tough as Ray knows that tie will be, he’s relishing the prospect.

“It’s another tough game and you are talking about facing a team that’s done very well in this league for the last two, three seasons,” he said.

“They are a good side but we’re at home, we’re in form and, now we’ve started scoring goals, we are really looking forward to the game.”

And it’s those last two factors in particular that have given so much reason for optimism at a team who extended their unbeaten run to eight games with that 3-0 Tannadice win over Morton on Friday night.

“I’ve been saying to you local lads for a while we know we should have won our last six or seven games,” added the gaffer.

“Our form has been good and the chances have been coming.

“They seemed to be hitting the bar or the post but now they’ve started going in the net and that’s good timing.”

United have also stopped leaking goals in the last month or so and an extra bonus going into the game is in-form centre-half Mark Durnan will not long be playing with the fear of a play-off suspension hanging over his head.

Dundee United fans queue for tickets for the play-off semi-final home leg against Falkirk.

That’s been the case for his last three games but any yellow card against the Bairns would mean the automatic ban that follows would not have to be served until the start of next season and not a play-off final, should United get through.

United also expect to have the option of being unchanged for a third game in a row.

Willo Flood has been carrying a thigh strain and William Edjenguele took a knock on his arm on Friday but both are set to play.

Young full-back Jamie Robson, meanwhile, came through the 90 minutes suffering no adverse reaction to the rib problem he’s been carrying for the last week.

Tonight’s home leg against the Bairns is all ticket.

The briefs have been selling well since Saturday morning and are now on general sale from the club shop opposite Tannadice.
