Ray McKinnon: Dundee United must use ball better

Dundee United boss Ray McKinnon wants to see his side’s passing game restored when Queen of the South visit on Saturday.

Much was made of the defensive lapses that cost the Tangerines so dear in Friday’s defeat at league leaders Hibs.

Ray himself bemoaned the uncharacteristic errors that were a factor in each of the three goals conceded.

The gaffer, however, has admitted he also felt his side were off form when it came to their use of the ball.

“You would expect more from us than we did when in possession,” he said.

“We didn’t show any composure and we didn’t move off the ball like we normally do.

“When we had the ball, people weren’t making themselves available and that made it difficult for the people on the ball to use it well.

“That definitely contributed to us going two down in the first half and there was no way back from that.”

Away from the first team, young defender Cammy Ballantyne has had his loan at League 2 Montrose extended until the end of the season.

The 19-year-old has made 14 appearance since heading to Links Park back in September.

Back-up goalkeeper Brett Long went to Clyde at the weekend on an emergency loan.

It was a difficult start for the 19-year-old Northern Irishman as the Bully Wee lost 3-0 to Stirling but United are happy to see him getting competitive game time.

Tickets for the Scottish Cup trip to face Premiership Ross County in Dingwall on Saturday week are still available from the club shop at Tannadice.

Prices are £20 for adults and £10 for concessions.
