Scone Palace in Perthshire will once again provide the stunning backdrop for the 2016 GWCT Scottish Game Fair with a myriad of food, drink, country sports, competitions, main ring events and ‘have a go’ activities running over three thrilling days.
Scotland’s most popular outdoor country event is a true celebration of rural Scotland showcasing its game, wildlife and countryside management.
More than 27,000 visitors attended last year and with advance ticket sales well ahead of previous years, organisers are anticipating another jam-packed event.
For animal lovers, there’ll be an unmissable horse logging demonstration, terrier racing as well as tug o’war, falconry, dog and duck Show, World of Gundogs, sheep Show and The Fred Taylor Memorial Trophy for Working Hill Ponies.
The Scottish Game Fair is renowned for its ‘have a go’ activities, traditional competitions and expert demonstrations such as clay and drone shooting, fishing, gundogs, scurry and many more.
Tantalise your taste buds with the cookery theatre and food hall which will be literally jam packed with demonstrations and tastings by leading Scottish chefs including Three Sisters Bake and Christopher Trotter.
There’ll be a huge amount of things to do for families and children. There’s the Wee Beasties Marquee, which is a hive of activity with beekeepers on hand to help you have a go at making a wax candle, as well as a live observation hive.
Not only this but wildlife sculptor Julian Jardine and the Royal Highland Education Trust will be running a variety of free workshops offering children the chance to get their hands dirty with clay model making.
There’s also the GWCT’s flagship stand which is hosting a ‘Grass to Grouse’ theme. It’s a must visit as it highlights the benefits of the Trust’s research, showcasing how science can be readily translated into practical management advice that helps ensure a thriving countryside rich in game and wildlife.
