An Angus nature reserve has opened a new tearoom.
Ahead of an Easter influx, the Murton Wildlife Trust has opened the tearoom and part of the latest development of the former quarry just east of Forfar.
The trust opened the reserve to the public in 2006 and as well as welcoming many visitors now offers vocational training for people aged 14 to 19 in land-based industries.
“We deliver educational SQA units to secondary school pupils and national certificated training to post-school trainees,” said a trust spokesman. “Our aim is to increase the chances of the young people attending Murton to move into further education, training or employment.”
The trust hopes the tearoom and farm development will create further job opportunities, coursework development and training and help the charity towards self-sufficiency.
The spokesperson said the farm and tearoom had been made possible thanks to some amazing supporters Inspiring Scotland, Tayside Rural Leader, Community Energy Scotland and Murton trustees.
Inspiring Scotland and Gannochy Trust aided the education programme.
In addition, the biodiversity projects would not happen without continued support from Angus Environmental Trust and Tayside Biodiversity Action Fund.
