A snapshot of life in 2010 is to be buried deep underneath Perth’s North Inch for future generations.
To mark the 70th anniversary of the Battle of Britain and Perth 800, a time capsule filled with letters, photographs, schoolwork and details of local people will be tucked away in a ceremony on October 29.
The Royal Air Force Association (RAFA) is appealing for people to come up with other unique ideas to put into the capsule which will not be dug up for 200 years.
The association also hopes it will be a lasting symbol to the young servicemen and women killed in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Director of the RAF Association in Scotland, Gair Brisbane, said, “We feel this is a perfect way to mark Perth 800 and we are delighted to be able to take part in the celebrations.”
Provost John Hulbert said, “A plaque will be placed on top of the burial site at the war memorial, with instructions that the capsule should not be opened up for two centuries in the year that Perth will be celebrating its 1000th anniversary as a royal burgh.”
