Raith Rovers have confirmed that a minute’s silence will be held before Saturday’s game with Stirling Albion to honour former defender Ronnie Coyle, who passed away on Tuesday.

Mr Coyle, who was 46, died after a courageous two-year battle with leukaemia.

While messages of support and condolence have flooded in from across the football world, Stirling Albion have agreed to help Raith honour Mr Coyle’s memory by holding a minute’s silence at the Doubletree Dunblane Stadium before the first division clash.

SFL operations and events manager Anton Fagan said the league had no hesitation in supporting the request.

He said, “We are sorry to hear such sad news.

“The SFL have no objection to a minute’s silence being held for Ronnie Coyle.”

Fans of various clubs have made Stark’s Park a focal point for their tributes in the last two days, with a steady stream of visitors laying flowers, scarves and football tops at the Kirkcaldy ground.

A large travelling support is also expected to make their way to Stirling, many of whom plan to pay their own tributes to the defender many dubbed ‘Baresi’.

Discussions about a longer-lasting memorial to Mr Coyle will continue over the coming days.
