Carnoustie Links staff have teed up a double fund-raising boost for Angus twins.
They presented a £1000 cheque to mum Averil Fleming from the Carnoustie Links Staff Charity Fund, which was set up in 2002 and has raised over £22,500 for local good causes.
Averil’s campaign to raise cash for surgery for her two-year-old daughters Ayley and Chloe has captured the public’s imagination since it began two months ago.
All the money collected is going towards £80,000 to pay for an operation in America.
An oil painting by Carnoustie Links staff member Barry Irving will also be given to the family.
It was signed by 22 famous golf players and aficianados including Lee Westwood, Darren Clarke, Rory McIlroy, Retief Goosen, Padraig Harrington, Paul Lawrie and Samuel L. Jackson at last year’s Dunhill Links Championship.
The girls suffer from cerebral palsy and are facing a life of immobility unless they travel to America to undergo specialised surgery.
Averil said that the response from the community has been “amazing,” with more than £12,000 flooding in.
Although Ayley is able to walk with a specialised frame, Chloe has no movement in her lower body meaning that the surgery, which is not available on the NHS, could revolutionise their lives.
