What’s billed as a not-to-be-missed event for anyone interested in the past takes place at Perth Concert Hall next month.
Perth: a Place in History runs on Friday September 10 and Saturday 11 and will see a string of talks by distinguished speakers.
Subjects include 800 Years Under Your Feet, the Archaeology of Medieval Perth; War, Famine and Disease Perth in the Middle Ages; The Englification of Perth; Risky Business, a History of General Accident; The Future for Perth’s Past, and many more.
The event has been organised by Perth and Kinross Heritage Trust and co-ordinated by local studies librarian Sara Kelly and archivist Steve Connelly of the AK Bell Library, along with Sue Payne of Perth Museum.
Trust manager David Strachan said, “The conference has captured the imagination of the Perth public and this has been most encouraging.
“We are assured of an enthusiastic audience at the Concert Hall already, but there is still plenty of room to accommodate anyone interested in finding out more about the Fair City.”
Among those keen to delve into Perth’s past is Provost John Hulbert, who said, “This two-day conference is a key event in the Perth 800 celebrations, revealing, as it will, the origins, history and development of Perth from earliest times to the present day.
“The conference takes place as Perth prepares for its bid to restore official city status.
“It is even more important in these circumstances that we know and understand Perth’s important place in Scottish history.
“The organising committee are to be congratulated for bringing together such an impressive array of speakers for what promises to be both highly informative and entertaining.”
