The historical importance of an ancient Perthshire site has been the focus of a talk at Discovery Point in Dundee.

Since 2006, teams of archaeologists from the universities of Glasgow and Aberdeen, along with local volunteers, have been exploring Forteviot, to the south-west of Perth, and the neighbouring parishes of Dunning and Forgandenny, as part of the Strathearn Environs and the Royal Forteviot (SERF) project.

In Wednesday night’s presentation, SERF project manager Dr Tessa Poller spoke about this work and the important archaeological venture which has already made some remarkable discoveries.

Forteviot holds an important place in the history of Scotland and used to be the royal centre in a fledgling nation in the ninth century. It also has one of the largest concentrations of early prehistoric ritual monuments in mainland Scotland.
