Dundee charity Eighteen And Under has been shortlisted for an award for the second year in a row.
The Charity Times Awards has been rewarding outstanding charities for the past 12 years and is widely recognised as one of the highest indicators of the passion and performance that often goes unrecognised within the charitable sector.
Eighteen And Under, based in Victoria Road, offers support to young people and children as well as running an abuse prevention and awareness programmes in schools.
It is a previous winner in the awards, having picked up a prize in 2003.
Keiran Watson, a prevention worker with the charity, said they were confident about their chances this time around.
He said, “We are busier now than we have ever been.
“We have been forming international partnerships to take our abuse prevention programme around the globe, and we have started up several new projects, including one for adult male survivors, so that we are able to offer help and support to as many people as we can.
“Of course it’s our ultimate aim to reach a point where organisations like ours are no longer needed, but in the meantime, whilst there is a real need for support services and a lot of hard work going into doing what we do, its amazing to receive this recognition.”
Eighteen And Under offers confidential support and information to anyone aged up to 18 who has experienced sexual, physical or emotional abuse, including racism, bullying, homophobia and neglect.
The charity is a member of the World Health Organisation’s global alliance for the prevention of violence and has helped thousands of young people in the Dundee area and throughout the UK over the last 16 years.
The charity’s work has often been praised.
It has received a commendation from the Scottish social services council and won the Dundee Partnership’s community safety award.
Its manager Laurie Matthew is a former Dundee citizen of the year.
