Station Park success could not have tasted sweeter for one far-travelled Forfar fan.
For 30 years Barry Stevens has enjoyed a long-distance love affair with the Loons, making the 1000-mile round trip from Southampton to Scotland several times a season to see his team in action.
The weekend marked three decades since his first foray in 1981, and a win against Alloa capped a memorable trip for the loyal Loon.
After seeing the side romp to victory and close in on a second division play-off place, Barry revealed the enduring relationship had been sparked by sympathy for a side which was the butt of fellow footie fans’ ridicule in another era.
“In 1974 my primary school was in Dundee Road in Southampton and, as you do when you’re a young lad, you look at the map for teams around that place name.
“That season Forfar won just one game and that record was always getting mentioned, so while all my friends were supporting the big names I decided to stick with Forfar,” added Barry, a storekeeper for Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service.
The visiting Stevens party also included grandchildren Sam (12) and Ben (7) Jacobs.
