An Angus woman who was married in jail to a drink-driver who killed two pensioners is heavily pregnant, it has been claimed.
Joanne Dye tied the knot with convict Alistair Ferrier (30), who is serving nine years in Perth Prison after causing the death of two people in a head-on smash.
A friend of the expectant mother was at the newly-wed Mrs Ferrier’s home in Brothock Mill Place, Arbroath, on Thursday. The friend, who asked not be named, said the bride was out for the day and she didn’t know when she would be back, adding, “Yes it was her that got married but I don’t think she wants to talk about it. She is heavily pregnant at the moment.”
Ferrier married his fiancee in a ceremony held less than six months after he was sentenced at the High Court in Edinburgh. His car had ploughed into a Vauxhall Meriva carrying John Gibson (69) and his wife Isobella (68), from Montrose, who were pronounced dead at the scene. Their 71-year-old passenger suffered severe injuries to her legs.
Ferrier, who is registered disabled, drove his Motability-model Vauxhall Astra on December 14, 2008, just minutes after being refused drink by staff at the Anchor Bar in Ferry Street, Montrose. On the way out of town he was seen by witnesses who estimated he was driving at 60-70mph.
After the collision on the A92 Dundee to Stonehaven Road, near Lunan Bay, he had to be cut from the wreck of his car with multiple fractures to his legs, pelvis and arms but he discharged himself from hospital after just six weeks.
Ferrier was also handed a 15-year driving ban his fifth disqualification. Tests showed he had a blood alcohol reading of 222mgs the limit is 80mgs.
Assessors estimated he was driving at between 70-80mph when he swerved into his victims’ people carrier.
