A body has been found in the search for a marine missing in Glen Clova.
Luke Ireland, 20, a serving marine with 45 Commando, was reported missing on Thursday afternoon after going running in the Glen Clova area.
A huge search operation swung into action, with 240 Royal Marines, civilian search and rescue teams from Braemar and Tayside and Royal Air Force mountain rescue teams all assisting Police Scotland Search and Rescue and dog units to trace him.A body was discovered in the Glen Clova area shortly after 1pm today.Formal identification of the body is yet to take place, but Mr Ireland’s family have been made aware of the developments.
Three truckloads of marines arrived in Glen Clova overnight and set up a base of operations. After finding no trace of him, the search resumed at around 4.30am today.
Family members alerted police after Mr Ireland failed to return from a run in the Loch Brandy area.
Fears increased for the marine after nightfall, with conditions in the hills particularly challenging.
Police described conditions in the areas as “treacherous”.
