Police are appealing for witnesses following the theft of a five-figure sum of cash from an ATM machine at the Royal Bank of Scotland in Kirriemuir.
The theft happened at the Bank Street brach at about 4.50am on Saturday.
Officers investigating the incident are also carrying out enquires into a report of an attempted theft at the ATM at the Co-op in Friockheim that happened earlier that morning, at about 3.20am.
Both incidents are thought to be connected.
Police are particularly keen to trace three men wearing dark clothing, who were travelling in a blue BMW 1 series car, registration number YE63 BPZ that was seen in the area of Friockheim at the time. The BMW appears to have been in the Angus area for a number of hours during Saturday morning.
The vehicle is known to have passed through Dundee in the Claverhouse Road area, and was last seen heading southwards on the A90 near to Longforgan.
During enquiries into the reported incidents, police recovered empty cash machine cassettes on the A928, Kirriemuir to Glamis road.
