A Brechin councillor has appealed to residents to step up and have a say in their town’s future.

Councillor Jim Houston’s rallying cry came as the Brechin design charrette was launched. Its aim is to establish a long-term vision, action plan and framework for the Angus town’s future development and prosperity.

Mr Houston said: “Brechin has been chosen by Angus Council for this charrette on the back of some very good work being done by communities in promoting the area.

“This opportunity follows the townscape heritage initiative and allows us to have another think about things such as transport, traffic management and buildings in the town.

“Come along and have a discussion and put forward your points of view.

“We’re already doing a lot in Brechin but we can move another step along the road to revitalising the town and town centre.”

There are numerous opportunities for the public to get involved within the intensive four-day charrette programme.

The schedule at the Damacre Centre includes a workshop session for Brechin and Angus agencies; a business and community workshop for traders and shoppers; a walkabout town with Brechin Civic Trust; a land/building owners and builders/developers forum; one-to-one discussions with the design team; and a traffic and transport walkabout and workshop to identify challenges and opportunities.

The week ends with a review and exhibition of progress over the four days and what lies ahead.

Mr Houston said: “It’s about making a difference for ourselves today and for Brechiners in the future.”
