Angus care home manager overwhelmed by donations after skydive in late friend’s honour

The manager of Montrose Day Care Centre has been overwhelmed by the level of donations for the charity skydive she completed in honour of a terminally-ill friend.

Irene Mitchell completed the skydive that 83-year-old Denis Mellor had wanted to undertake before his death in August.

Denis had collected around £600 in funds for the day care centre before his death, but Irene has revealed that the total of donations now exceeds £2,300 after her Errol A irfield thrill.

She said: “I’m absolutely delighted with the amount that has been raised so far and some money is still coming in.

“Everyone has been so kind and generous.”

She said the funds will be used to create a garden when the centre moves to its new home next summer.

The site of the old ambulance station on Warrack Terrace has now been cleared, with work expected to start shortly.

“Denis spoke to me about what we were going to do with the money and mentioned a garden, so this amount will be used to create a garden in his memory,” Irene added.

The new day care building will be called the Adam Centre in recognition of a large donation.
