Work will get under way within days on the site of a permanent memorial to Angus-born rocker Bon Scott after ringing support from planning councillors for the Kirriemuir plan to honour the AC/DC frontman.
Community group DD8 Music received over 70 letters of support for their bid to site a statue of the enigmatic artist near the centre of the town after fans from across the globe pledged their backing for the £50,000 campaign.
With Ayrshire-based sculptor and AC/DC fan John McKenna well advanced on the statue commission, Angus development standards councillors today cleared the way for the Bellies Brae monument.
An AC/DC fan on the council committee said she is confident the statue due to be unveiled at the annual Bonfest celebration at the end of April will become a magnet for tourists from across the globe.
Brechin councillor Mairi Evans said: “I think this will be an absolutely huge boost for Kirrie and the whole of Angus, and hopefully we can all reap the tourism spin-off benefits.”
