Construction of the new Timmergreens and Warddykes primary schools in Arbroath have been delayed by about six weeks.
The hold-up is due to a contractual issue relating to the appointment of the main contractor for the construction.
Angus Council education spokeswoman Councillor Sheena Welsh said work will now begin next month.
She added: “The delay is very disappointing but it is outwith our control, as the contractor is not appointed by the council.
“As a portion of the funding for the project is being provided by the Scottish Future Trust (SFT), the contractor is appointed by Hubco, the SFT procurement agent.
“Hubco was unable to resolve a contractual issue with the original contractor and is now appointing another contractor.
“They anticipate that work will start on both sites next month.
“We have written to parents and carers to explain the delay and, once it is confirmed, we will share the details of the new start date and works schedule.”
The £11 million project to replace Timmergreens and Warddykes primary schools is the first phase of Angus Council’s major investment programme to upgrade the primary school estate in Arbroath.
The new schools will open in 2016.
