The Glamis Gathering 2013 is ready to roll out the red carpet for visitors from near and far this weekend.

Last year, historic Glamis Castle hosted what was the biggest Scottish event in the Queen’s diamond jubilee celebrations and the overwhelming success of that event has spawned what promises to be a packed programme of family fun on Saturday and Sunday.

Angus Deputy Lord Lieutenant Robina Addison and Norman Fiddes have between them pulled together participants from across Courier Country and the north-east, and, with fingers crossed that the Angus weather will play its part in proceedings, they say the stage is set for a highly enjoyable weekend with something for everyone.

Robina is particularly keen for an enthusiastic response to help deliver a big boost to the Ninewells Cancer Campaign, which will benefit from the event.

“We all know someone or have lost a special someone to the disease, so we are really hoping that Glamis Gathering visitors will contribute to the campaign,” she added.Photo gallery: Glamis Gathering 2013The opening action of the weekend will be this evening’s musical Live on the Lawn programme, compered by Doug Duthie and featuring local artistes Mandrake, James Sheperd-Bluthe, Blair Ruxton and Isobel Luke, Rhona MacFarlane, sisters Chloe and Leah Massie and Showcase the Street.

The 90-strong Scottish Police Choir, girl rock band Glitz, the Iron Broo ceilidh band, Blairgowrie Pipe Band, Celtic Feet dancers and international fiddler Paul Anderson will also take to the stage before a performance by Michael Buble tribute Drew Wilson.

Sunday’s highlight will be the mid-day appearance of the Singing Kettle with their new Wild West show. The Glamis grounds are also set to be buzzing with a wide range of attractions, including burgh marquees, a teddy bears picnic and BBC Scotland presenter Hilary Whitley testing burgh youngsters in a Glammerjack competition.

Food and crafts will play a key part in the event and STV news presenter Andrea Brymer will be joining Kilted Chef Craig Wilson for a special cooking challenge using ingredients from the Angus Farmers’ Market.
