An OAP biker who held an unblemished licence for 54 years raced along Angus roads at speeds of up to 138mph, a court has heard.
Peter Elliot Farquhar (70), a retired painter, and his friend Roy Buick McPhee (50), a forklift truck driver, also drove at up to 100mph through 30mph streets as they were pursued by police.
Farquhar, of Cairnie Crescent, Arbroath, and McPhee, of the town’s Brechin Road, admitted driving dangerously at 138mph in a 60mph zone on March 31 last year on the A933 Brechin to Arbroath Road at Montreathmont.
They also admitted failing to stop when requested to do so by a police officer.
Farquhar further admitted driving dangerously at speeds of up to 100mph within a 30mph zone on Kirkton Road.
McPhee admitted driving dangerously at speeds of up to 100mph on Kirkton Road, Cairnie Street, Stobcross, Wellgate, Robert Street, Spink Street and Helen Street.
Farquhar, McPhee and a group of six friends, all in their 60s and 70s, had earlier stopped for soup and tea on their way back from a weekend ride up to Braemar.
Arbroath Sheriff Court heard the group came out of the woods at Montreathmont and Farquhar and McPhee broke away as they got on the 60mph A933.
Depute fiscal Jill Drummond said police were carrying out speed checks around 1.50pm when they observed the bikes travelling clearly in excess of the limit.
She said both men were clocked by a laser gun at 138mph and police attempted to get them to stop but they failed to do so.
Sentence was deferred until March 19 and both men were disqualified from driving in the interim.
