Forfar Rotary Club has moved to increase the popularity of its biennial Marafun by opening race donations up to other charitable organisations.
One of the most anticipated events in the Angus calendar or at least every second one sees a mix of club and fun-runners puff up and down Forfar’s streets for good causes.
Ever mindful of the aim to assist in the community as well as enlisting community help, the Rotary Club have introduced changes to those interested in running a team in the Marafun.
Instead of each team gathering donations for the Rotary Club charity and donating a race fee from the competitors, this year’s instalment will allow teams to run for their own charity or club.
Such a move could benefit schools, football clubs, youth groups, and community groups even charities can enter a team.
These groups can arrange to enter by choosing this option and paying an increased entry fee or continuing to run for the Rotary charity with a smaller fee.
It has also been decided to run a half-Marafun at the same time, so those daunted by running eight laps can enter a team for four. Each team can be made up of any amount of runners, providing 20 laps are run.
This will be more of a fun run event and teams will be encouraged to run in fancy dress.
