Proposals for a new city centre nightclub have taken a major step forward by winning the backing of Dundee councillors despite opposition from residents.
The former Rendezvous bar on the corner of Union Street has been granted permission by the development management committee to open a nightclub in its basement, providing the premises is properly soundproofed.
Some 10 letters of objection were sent to Dundee City Council from homeowners. They were mainly concerned that noise would disturb them as they slept and feared customers would cause unwanted noise in the early hours.
However, councillors were satisfied the club will be adequately soundproofed and, as such, would not cause any disturbance.
Resident Peter Haining, who strongly objects to the plans, told The Courier after the decision, “I am disappointed because the sound check was not done on the terms I was promised.”
