Kitchen ceiling collapse forces Dundee family out

A young Dundee mother was forced to turn to relatives to help feed her children at the weekend after her kitchen ceiling partially collapsed following a water leak.

Pregnant Karen Edwards (27) was forced to cordon off the kitchen of her Grampian Gardens home to her three children after Friday afternoon’s deluge brought plaster crashing down from the ceiling.

A large section of the kitchen roof has been left damaged as a result of the flood and there is even a hole right through into the unoccupied flat above.

Karen said she contacted her landlord Abertay Housing Association about the problem and a workman had been around to ensure the leak had been stopped.

However, she said she had been told it would be today at the earliest before repairs could be carried out, meaning she had to make alternative arrangements to ensure her young children Sean, Marc and Nicola were fed.

The full-time mum said she had endured several previous floods at the property all related to the flat above her home and the latest incident had left her and her care assistant partner Marc Campbell (27) at the end of their tethers.

She said, “Abertay Housing Association have said there is nothing that can be done until Monday but because of the water I’m scared to put the heating or any of the appliances in the house on.

“I am going to have to see if my father-in-law or my mum can cook something and bring something over for us to eat because I won’t be using the kitchen I’m too scared to.”
