The floodwater that swamped Balmossie Mill at the weekend appears to have been caused by the overflowing Dighty Burn nearby, it emerged yesterday, and rectifying the problem may be the responsibility of the owners.
Householders of the renovated historic property spent much of Saturday and Sunday mopping up after the deluge.
They noticed that the flood defence wall between their homes and the burn had not been breached, and wondered if a blocked subterranean stream may be the cause.
Dundee City Council provided sandbags and other assistance and were back there yesterday to investigate the site at the request of councillor Rod Wallace.
Last night Mr Wallace said he had been advised the floodwater had seeped through the land and settled around the mill from sections of the bank further upstream.
He continued, “The council have no direct responsibility but will help and co-operate with the property owners in efforts to address this problem.”
He added that the Scottish Flood Forum are prepared to survey the property and offer advice on how the building can be protected.
Premier News, Food and Wine in Turnberry Avenue has re-opened after water began seeping into the front door and stock room of the store at the weekend.
Staff said some stock was considerably damaged.
